Hiring a Cleaner:
what to check

Registrations, certificates, questions to ask and typical UK prices.

Cleaning jobs come in three main types: regular (weekly or fortnightly), one-off deep cleans, and end-of-tenancy cleans. End-of-tenancy is the one where getting it right matters most, because it decides whether you get your deposit back, so ask whether the cleaner works to an inventory checklist and whether they'll come back if the agent flags anything.

Because a cleaner will be in your home, often when you're out, it's reasonable to ask whether they hold public liability insurance and a basic DBS check, and how keys are handled. A good cleaner will answer those questions easily.

Agree up front who supplies products and equipment, and whether there's a minimum visit length.
